POSITION
SUMMARY |
This role is all about overseeing Accounting Controls and
Policies as RioCan continues to grow. There will be a heavy emphasis on
National Instrument 52-109.
RESPONSIBILITIES |
Reporting
to the Vice President, Financial Reporting and Controls this role will be
responsible for:
Internal Controls
· Lead the company’s National Instrument 52-109 certification process, manage resources who perform the related testing, and manage supporting documentation to meet certification requirements.
· Manage and ensure company policies and systems of internal controls, both financial and non-financial, remain current and are updated as required by Delta.
· Conduct business process interviews with process owners and update business process narrative and workflow diagrams in accordance with set methodology.
· Compile evidence of control activities and working papers. Assist with the identification of risks and mitigating controls. Maintain logs for process improvements, issues and follow up with control matters until items are resolved, as required.
· Identify areas to strengthen/refine company policies and controls.
· Liaison on control testing status with the external auditors and internal auditors.
· Implement company policies in accordance to changes in business environment and legislation.
· Design and implement internal controls to comply with company policies and changes in accounting standards. Coach and develop others within RioCan in order to support a strong control environment, compliance with regulatory, organizational and industry standards, and mitigate risk.
· Other duties as required.
Organizational Policies
· Oversee the development and maintenance of all organizational policies and procedures to ensure compliance and an effective governance framework.
· Such policies include the following areas: Financial Reporting, Treasury, Operations, Development Accounting, IT, Property Accounting, Marketing, Internal Controls, HR and Financial Planning & Analysis.
· Review current written policies and provide leadership in the development of new policies.
· Assist and support the Financial Reporting function in the creation and maintenance of a Corporate Accounting Policies and Procedures manual.
· Interact with third party service providers, external and internal auditors, as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS: |
· Chartered Professional Accountant designation or equivalent with relevant work experience in business, financial processes and internal controls.
· 10 - 15 years relevant work experience
· Strong general accounting, audit, and financial close/ finance operations experience.
· Experience with JD Edwards, Hyperion and real estate industry experience preferable.
· Certification in Risk Management Assurance an asset, but not required.
· Previous experience managing teams.
· Subject matter expert in internal controls over financial reporting and Multinational Instrument 52-109.
· Previous experience in conducting and coordinating testing of internal control design and operating effectiveness for business and financial controls in a public company setting.
· Detail oriented, ability to assess and resolve issues based on facts and sound business judgment.
· Proven organizational skills, combined with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and workload demands.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
